An Illinois native, Dr. Kurtz received his M.D. from the Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine, in 1979. He then completed an internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center of The Pennsylvania State University, where he was chief resident of internal medicine from 1982-1983. Dr. Kurtz joined HeartCare Midwest in 1988 and has been a member of the teaching faculty at the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine at Peoria ever since, currently serving as clinical assistant professor.

A member of the American College of Cardiology, Craig comes from a small farming community. He says his general practitioner was a great role model for him and was part of the reason he became a doctor.

Dr. Kurtz and his wife Pam have three children, Sarah, Paul, and Rachel. He enjoys spending time with his children while they raise and show registered quarter horses.
