Fellowship: University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City
Specializing in:
- Consultative Cardiology

Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Paul came to the United States with his family at the age of one. He was raised in Kewanee, Illinois and went to school in the Wethersfield School District. After graduating high school, he moved on to college in St. Louis.
It seemed natural, as the son of a physician, that he too would become interested in medicine. The entire field seemed very interesting and exciting, so he began thinking about his medical career even while choosing courses in high school. What drew him into the specialty of cardiology was the prospect of being able to help people in a short period of time.
Dr. Cheng completed medical school at Northwestern University and residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center where he was named outstanding residency teacher for three consecutive years. Dr. Cheng also served as chief medical resident at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, a University of Illinois affiliated hospital. He completed a Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Iowa. Dr. Cheng has a special interest in consultative cardiology, echocardiography and nuclear imaging.
Dr. Cheng and his wife, Karen, have two children, Garrett and Anastasia. Besides spending time with his family, Paul enjoys playing golf and tennis, watching sports on television, reading and watching movies.
