A native Peorian, David says he knew at an early age he wanted to be a doctor. He "caught the bug" by tagging along with his father, who was also a physician, to read EKG's at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.

David received his M.D. from the University of Illinois-Chicago in 1972; completed an internship at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington; completed an internal medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit; and completed a cardiology fellowship at the University of Illinois-Chicago. He's been with HeartCare Midwest since 1979, specializing in heart transplants and coronary intervention. David is proud to be part of the Downstate Heart Transplant Center- the top-rated adult program in Illinois. A member of the American College of Cardiology, he is also a clinical assistant professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria.

Dr. Best and his wife Ann have six children and a dog named Elvis. So, as David says, there's always something going on. In his free time, David likes to golf, run, and work around the yard.
